New Delhi: Manchester United on Wednesday confirmed Sir Alex Ferguson will leave the club at the end of this season after spending 26 years at Old Trafford. Ferguson will now be the director and ambassador at the club after leaving the coaching job.
According to British media reports, Everton manager David Moyes is the red-hot favourite to replace Ferguson after the English team failed to woo former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola a couple of months ago.
"The most successful manager in English football history will bow out after the West Bromwich Albion game on 19 May and join the football club board," an official United statement read.
71-year-old Ferguson will be retiring after 1500 games in charge at United. He won 13 EPL and 2 European titles with United. The Scot also won 49 trophies as a manager, making him the most successful British football manager in history.
Ferguson joined Manchester United in 1986 after leaving Aberdeen. He managed 3 other clubs and the Scotland national team in his 40-year career.
