Margao: Defending champions Dempo SC scored a resounding 5-0 win over Sporting Clube de Goa in the second round of the I-League at Nehru Stadium, here Friday.
Dempo led 2-0 at half time. They scored through Anthony Pereira (15th), Ryuji Sueoka (22nd), Clifford Miranda (70th, 74th) and substitute Koko Sakibo (injury time).
Sporting Clube de Goa, who played their hearts out to hold East Bengal to a goalless draw in the previous match, played again with all local players, bringing in Pratesh Shirodkar in place of injured Macroy Peixoto.
Sporting controlled the midfield initially, but failed to get past the rival's strong defence, led by Mahesh Gawli.
Dempo, who scraped past Churchill Brothers 2-1 in their opening match, also made one change, bringing in Joaquim Abranches in place of Climax Lawerence and reverting Rohan Ricketts to his original midfield position.
But the Englishman failed to impress and was replaced by Climax Lawerence in the second half.
In the 15th minute, Clifford from the left relayed the ball to Ryuji Sueoka on top of the box. The latter took a shot at the goal which deflected the keeper and hit the post, and off the rebound Anthony Pereira shot home.
The goal spurred Dempo, as they went on attacking.
Sporting came close to scoring twice but substitute Victorino Fernandes was late in connecting Dawson Fernandes's cross from the right, and later his weak effort was collected by the rival keeper.
