Mumbai: Eleven under-16 football players, two of them from Mumbai, have been picked for a four-day training stint at the Manchester United Soccer School in the UK. The youngsters were selected as part of the Airtel Rising Stars six-month talent hunt conducted across seven cities in the country.
Sanath Valldares and Akram Khan from Mumbai, Arka Dey and Rajib Roy from Kolkata, Mohd Aqib and Karan Khurana from Delhi, Premchand Singh (goalkeeper) and Niraj Singh from Bangalore, Liston Colaco and Jolitan Dias from Goa, and Rakesh K from Hyderabad are set to leave for Manchester tomorrow, a media release said today.
Out of 23 selected participants from seven cities, these 11 emerged as the most promising after a two-day camp in Goa in February, where they were judged on technical and tactical skill, physical and mental strength, social skills, on-field behaviour, communication, discipline, enthusiasm and fair play, it said.
They would undergo training from April 28 to May 1 alongside the Manchester United Academy team. The camp is scheduled at the Salford City Reds Stadium where players would undergo practical sessions and workshops on 'Live the United Way'.
On May 2, the players will be at the Aon Training Complex witnessing a football festival along with medal presentation and closing ceremony, the release added.
