With INEOS founder Jim Ratcliffe acquiring a 25 percent stake in Manchester United, fans can certainly expect to see some new faces in the squad in the January transfer window.
Erik ten Hag did manage to end Manchester United’s trophy drought last season but this time it has not been an impressive campaign so far for the Red Devils. In the Premier League, Manchester United currently occupy the eighth spot in the standings. The summer transfers have not been quite impressive in Manchester United jersey and this has reportedly raised doubts over Ten Hag’s recruitment decisions.
In a situation like this, INEOS is understood to be planning to acquire some new faces. Several names have already started floating in the market as Manchester United’s next potential signings.
A report published by the Mirror claimed that Manchester United can target defender Jean-Clair Todibo. Playing for OGC Nice, a side owned by Jim Ratcliffe, Todibo has showcased his terrific defensive prowess in recent times. The article went on to state that the 24-year-old has garnered attention from some of the Europe’s top clubs and looks primed for the Premier League.
The Mirror report also mentioned German striker Timo Werner’s name as one of Manchester United’s prime targets in the transfer market. The article suggested that a return to England seems a possibility for Werner, who is currently being considered by Manchester United this month.
Apart from Timo Werner and Jean-Clair Todibo, names of other options like Michael Olise, and Joshua Kimmich have also been mentioned in the Mirror article as Manchester United’s potential targets.
Coming back to on-field developments, Manchester United have succeeded in winning one of their last six matches across all competitions.
When asked to highlight the reason behind Manchester United’s dismal campaign, Erik Ten Hag told Sky Sports, “The injuries. Also some issues but mainly the injuries hold us back in the process. In January we have a lot of players returning so then our levels can be higher. Definitely [Dave Brailsford] will see we have our problems. You want to build on the last result but we have to change our striker.”
In their next match, Manchester United will be up against Wigan Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup on Tuesday, January 9.
