Bollywood actor and football enthusiast Ranbir Kapoor and chartered accountant Bimal Parekh joined hands to own the Mumbai City Football Club that will have Navi Mumbai's swanky DY Patil Stadium as its home for the Indian Super League.
The club hired eminent English football manager, television pundit and former England defensive midfielder Peter Reid as its team Manager while experienced football coach and former player Steve Darby as Reid's assistant on the coaching bench.
Former Arsenal and West Ham United midfielder Fredrik Ljungberg, who also led the Sweden national team, is the team's marquee player - with former Chelsea and France international Nicolas Anelka as the other noteworthy star in the squad. Among the Indian stars, Raju Gaikwad, Syed Rahim Nabi and Lalrindika Ralte are expected to provide strength to the squad.
The team's logo is a reflection of a resilient fortress that stands proudly reflecting the determined spirit of the city. The seven stars symbolise the islands that form Mumbai other than the Mumbai local train that is known as Mumbai's lifeline.
