Rome: Former Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez has decided to retire from Argentina international duty. Tevez, who played for Manchester City last season and has scored 13 goals for the national side, chose not to elaborate on his decision on Wednesday, reports Xinhua.

"It's over," he said. "I have nothing more to add. I have said what I feel and that's the end of the matter. If I say anything else then it would seem as if I'm asking for a recall."

Since Alejandro Sabello took over the Argentina squad in the summer of 2011, Tevez has always been dropped. Tevez also revealed he could have quit football altogether if he had not been signed by Juventus.

"There comes a moment where you get tired, you get tired of football," he said.

"I wanted to leave football but then Juventus, one of the biggest teams in Europe, arrived. I had always said that I would retire at the age of 28 and I was close to retiring after the row with Roberto Mancini," he said.
