How to Clear Formatting in Word
This wikiHow teaches you how to clear formatting in Word on Windows and Mac computers, the mobile app, and a web browser. The web version of Word is very similar to the Windows desktop program, so you can follow the same steps for both.
Steps

Using the Mobile App

Open Word. This app looks like a white "W" layered on top of a shaded blue rectangle that you can find on one of your Home screens, in the app drawer, or by searching.

Tap to open a document. You can choose from your recent documents or you can tap the icons along the bottom of your screen to open other documents.

Tap Android 7 Edit. You'll see this pencil icon in the blue menu above the document preview. Tapping this will change the view from Print Layout to editing.

Select the text you want to remove formatting from. Long-tap a word to select it, then drag and drop the cursors before and after the word to change your selection.

Tap ^ in the menu above your keyboard. This upwards-pointing arrow will close your keyboard and expand the menu.

Tap Clear Formatting. It's usually the third listing in the Home menu.

Using the Windows App or Word Online

Open a document in Word. You'll find the program listed in the Start menu, but you can also right-click a Word document file in your file manager and select Open With > Word. If you don't have the program installed on your computer, you can also use Word online by visiting https://office.com. Follow the rest of this method to clear formatting using a web browser.

Select the text you want to remove formatting from. If you want to remove the entire document's formatting, press Ctrl + A to select all the text.

Click the Home tab. You'll see this in the editing ribbon above the document editing space with Insert and References.

Click the "A" with an eraser icon. This is the icon for "Clear All Formatting" and is in the "Font" grouping. Clicking this will remove the formatting from the selected text.

Using the Mac App

Open a document in Word. You'll find the application in the Applications folder in Finder, but you can also right-click a Word document file in your file manager and select Open With > Word.

Select the text you want to remove formatting from. If you want to remove the entire document's formatting, press Cmd + A to select all the text.

Click the Edit and Clear. You'll see this in the menu that runs along the top of your screen.

Click Clear Formatting. This will remove the formatting from the selected text.
