Contacting the Seller Before Your Purchase

Go to https://www.ebay.com/ in a web browser or open the eBay app. You can use any web browser to do this. Log in if necessary. You'll need to be logged in to contact a seller.

Find an item you want to buy. You can browse the Home screen of eBay or you can use the search function to find something specific.

Click or tap Contact seller or Contact. On the website, you'll see this to the right of the item's description in a box that contains more information about the seller. If you're using the mobile app, scroll down and tap the "About The Seller" section, then you'll see the "Contact" button at the bottom of your screen. If you're not logged in, you'll be prompted to log in to continue.

Select Other and Contact Seller. When you first opt to "Contact Seller," you'll first need to look through some articles that may or may not answer your question. Marking "Other" will prompt "Contact Seller" to appear as an option.

Type your question, comment, or concern to the seller. This is the message they will see in their Inbox, so make sure to include the item you're looking at purchasing and any other details that may be important. Select "Send a copy to my email address" if you want this message sent to your email.

Select Send Message. A copy of the sent message will appear in your "Sent" box in the message center.

Contacting the Seller After Your Purchase

Go to https://www.ebay.com/ in a web browser or open the eBay app. You can use any web browser to do this. Log in if necessary. You'll need to be logged in to see your purchase history and contact a seller.

Go to Purchase History. On the website, hover your cursor over My eBay to get a drop-down that reveals "Purchase History." On the mobile app, tap the three-line menu icon and tap Purchases.

Click or tap Contact seller. You'll see this listed next to the purchased item in the list. If you don't see it here, click or tap the item from the list.

Click or tap I want to send the seller a message. After you've filled out the form to contact the seller, you'll need to send the message by clicking I want to send the seller a message.
