This wikiHow teaches you how to delete a channel on Slack for iPhone or iPad. You must be a workspace owner or admin to completely delete a channel, but regular members are able to archive private channels. While there is no way to delete a channel using the Slack app, you can log in to Slack on Safari to access the desktop features and delete the channel from there. Workspace owners and admins can delete any private or public channel, except for the #general channel.

Steps

Open Safari web browser and enter slack workspace URL in the address bar. Safari is the blue icon that looks like a compass. An example slack URL is: "https://workspacename.slack.com". You can find the Slack workspace URL using the Slack iPhone or iPad app. Swipe right on the channel threads list. You will see a list of all workspaces you are signed in to. The URL will be listed below the workspace name. You can also open your Slack workspace on a desktop computer if you'd prefer.

Tap the share iPhone Share icon.

Tap the Request Desktop Site icon. It's the icon that looks like a computer screen. This will display the desktop version of the Slack workspace on your iPhone or iPad.

Tap the channel you want to delete in the left column. The #general channel cannot be deleted. Keep in mind that private channels can only be deleted by workspace owners or admins, however you can archive a private channel as a general member. Archiving a channel will close the conversation, but it will not remove the messages.

Tap the settings Windows Settings icon. It's at the top of the chat, across from the channel name.

Tap Additional Options.

Tap Delete this Channel. If you don't see this option, contact the owner or administrator. Only admins and owners can delete a channel. If you'd like to archive the channel instead, select Archive this channel.

Tap the checkbox Android 7 Checkbox next to "Yes, permanently delete this channel".

Tap the red Delete Channel button. Once a channel is deleted, the messages cannot be recovered. If you do not wish to permanently delete the messages archive the channel instead. Deleting a channel will not delete the channel files.
