Rajinikanth's Tamil political thriller 'Sivaji 3D' will be India's first to be released with Dolby Atmos.

Megastar Rajinikanth's Tamil political thriller 'Sivaji 3D' will be India's first to be released with Dolby Atmos, a new audio platform that will change the experience of sound and transport audiences into a different planet with a lifelike, sensory experience.

'Sivaji 3D', which is directed by S Shankar, opens in cinemas Dec 12 on Rajinikanth's 62nd birthday.

"It is one of our most significant innovations in recent years and represents the future of entertainment," said Pankaj Kedia, country manager, Dolby Laboratories, in a statement.

Rajinikanth played the role of Sivaji Arumugam, a man fighting the system to provide good quality education, infrastructure, healthcare and employment for all free of cost. Shriya Saran as Tamizhselvi Ramalingam, Sivaji's love interest whom he eventually marries.

Sivaji 3D has been in the making for quite some time now. This represents a specialty in general, because of the unique date of 12-12-12, which comes once in a 100 years.

AVM Studios who made the original Sivaji have taken a lot of effort to release the film in 3D and have spent the last few years in converting the movie from its original format.

Sivaji was released in 2007 and saw huge openings across screens. It quickly grossed the biggest earnings in history with respect to Tamil cinema. Seeing it again in 3D would make a great day for fans of Rajnikanth and Tamil cinema in general.
