Members of the Public Accounts Committee were surprised on Tuesday to know that no single project had been set up in 22,500 acres of land allotted to companies in Visakhapatnam district under the policy of industrial promotion in the past 20 years.
The members decided to constitute sub-committees within the PAC one each for Telangana, Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions to extensively study the irregularities in the allotment of lands to various companies on the pretext of industrial development.
The committee, which had toured Visakhapatnam district recently and inspected the lands allotted to National Hinduja Power Corporation for setting up a power plant, met in the Assembly Committee Hall here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Revuri Prakash Reddy (TDP).
It is learnt that the PAC decided to set up three sub-committees with legislators and officials to extensively study the land allotments made in all regions of the state. One committee will work from Hyderabad and examine the land allotments made in Telangana, the other from Tirupati to study the land allotments in Rayalaseema and the third from Visakhapatnam to examine the land allotments in coastal Andhra. After thoroughly examining the land allotments in all the regions, the PAC will recommend to the government action against companies which failed to set up projects as promised. It will also ask the government to take back the lands where projects have not commenced and return the same to original owners.
The PAC members reviewed the objections raised by the CAG in revenue, animal husbandry departments with officials concerned.
They also examined the land allotments to special economic zones in Visakhapatnam district. They expressed their displeasure over non-completion of works at the lands allotted to Hinduja Power Plant in Visakhapatnam.
