CHENNAI: It’s finally out. The third revised result of the first year exams was put up by the TN Dr MGR Medical University on their website on Wednesday night. The final tally who passed reached a substantial 2595 of the total 3184 who wrote the exam. When compared with the 60 per cent pass rate that caused an outrage on October 1, this sets the result at a respectable 81.5 per cent. Yet, the association of medical students has announced another stir to protest the results from Thursday. Apparently, the reasons for their discontent is the confusion over what system of gradation has finally been used and the varsity’s unwillingness to be transparent about the same. Second, a section of students— ostensibly those who have still failed— are arguing that perhaps they might have been closer to passing had the marks not been converted from the original 500 to 200. Allegations of non-adherence to MCI norms are also floating around. Professors in KMC and MMC have expressed a concern that students are merely agitating in the false hope that a few more can be passed. The varsity can finally breathe easy, as a majority of the students and faculty may stay away from the ‘stir’. Sources close to V-C Dr Mayilvahanan Natarajan even claimed that “he would be willing to fight it out in the SC if necessary to uphold these results, as they are fair.” As many as 628 students will be allowed to join the second year.
