Skating is comparatively a less recognised sport in India compared to biggies like cricket and football but a Tamil Nadu boy has brought some attention to the sport through a unique record. In the Tenkasi district of Tamil Nadu, Sri Mukundan, the son of Ranganathan and Gayathri from the Ezhil Nagar area near the new bus stand, is a Class 4 student with a passionate interest in skating. Despite his young age, 9-year-old Sri Mukundan has shown remarkable dedication to the sport. His enthusiasm and skill in skating have led him to undertake an extraordinary challenge: setting a new world record in the Universal Book of Records.

Sri Mukundan’s record attempt involved skating continuously for 5 kilometres while blindfolded. This remarkable feat required not only physical endurance but also immense concentration and courage. The event took place in the Kuthukalvalasai area of Tenkasi, drawing the attention and support of the local community.

The challenge began with a ceremonial flag-off by Tenkasi Traffic Inspector Mani and Achanpudur Police Inspector Hariharan. As the officials signalled the start, Sri Mukundan, with his eyes covered, started his 5-kilometer journey. The young skater moved with determination and grace, navigating the distance without pause. Completing the challenge within one hour, he demonstrated his exceptional skating abilities and mental fortitude.

Sri Mukundan’s successful completion of the record attempt was met with widespread admiration and celebration. The event highlighted not only his achievement but also the support and encouragement of his community. Following his impressive performance, Sri Mukundan was honoured in a ceremony where Police Inspector Mani, his parents, and residents expressed their pride and appreciation. They adorned him with garlands and offered their heartfelt congratulations. This achievement not only places Sri Mukundan in the Universal Book of Records but also serves as an inspiration to other young athletes. The event has brought positive recognition to Tenkasi and has highlighted the potential of its young talents.
