Aamir Khan has proclaimed him a star; Aamir's wife Kiran called his creation an anthem and a first-ever success party in Bollywood was organised to salute his latest musical making. Ram Sampat, whose Bhaag D K Bose from Delhi Belly is making waves, claims that he is not running for any awards but is happy that Mr. Perfectionist Aamir has called him a 'star'.
In fact, call him the filmmaker's new blue-eyed boy and Ram accepts the complement with great modesty. Singing the tune of most people who work with the star, he says, "Being called a star by Aamir is life-altering! He is known to be the best of best in business." With an emphatic pause, the young music composer claims, "I don't need any awards. Aamir complementing my work is good enough for me..."
Ram who has worked extensively in the Mumbai advertising circuit and also created songs and background scores for films like Khakee and Luv Ka The End, admits he didn't have the faintest of ideas that Bhaag D K Bose was going to make a lot of news. With the song topping music charts, satisfaction rings aloud in Sampat's voice. He says, "It feels amazing to be appreciated like this. It feels nice to be making authentic music that is different from the regular Bollywood stuff." About Bhaag D K Bose, he says, "The song resonates the story of our lives...Everyday, we wake up and keep running all day... It is close to my heart."
After Sampat did a remix for one of Aamir's last productions - Peepli Live, and given his close association with Delhi Belly, it comes as a little surprise that he is all set to make music for Reema Kagti's next film, which will also star Aamir Khan. "It is just a coincidence," clarifies Sampat. He tells us how Aamir merely recommended his name to Kagti, and the filmmaker and he then took it forward. Speaking about his association with Kagti, Sampat says, "She is probably the finest filmmaker I have worked with. Reema is involved in every note of her film's music."
Given the significance of the complement Aamir paid to Ram, naturally the conversation veers towards working with Mr. Perfectionist. In fact, Ram surprises us when he claims, "Aamir is not really chasing perfection." After a moment's thought, he points out, "Actually, Aamir is chasing excellence...He is the best as can be. But contrary to popular belief, he is not a dictator. All the decisions are made by the team. He invites everybody's opinion. He is not autocratic and is a very easy person to work with."
