BHUBANESWAR: The Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (Alimco) assured the State Government to supply quality aids and appliances for the Bhima Bhoi Bhinnakshyama Samartha Abhiyan (BBSA). Alimco Chairman and Managing Director G Narayan Rao, along with Technical Director Mahesh Dubey, met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and held discussions. During the meeting, Naveen sought Alimco participation in the programme which the State Government has launched. BBSA is the first ever integrated empowerment campaign and one of its kind in the country wherein persons with disabilities will get support from the State Government on a mass scale. The programme will cover the whole State down to village level. Rao told the Chief Minister that Alimco will ensure supply of the aids to all persons with disabilities (PWDs), identified by the State Government under the programme. The corporation, he said, produces 355 different types of quality aids and appliances required by orthopaedically, visually and hearing challenged persons. Besides, it has been providing innovative and appropriate solutions to the problems faced by the disabled. Alimco has an auxiliary production centre at Bhubaneswar which has provided aids and appliances worth over Rs. 24 crore to 47,000 PWDs of Orissa free of cost under different schemes of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Besides, another 50,000 beneficiaries have benefited from other schemes too, Rao said.
