After reports of Priyanka Gandhi likely to campaign against Narendra Modi in UP and other parts of the country surfaced in media on Monday, Allahabad Congress Committee has on Tuesday passed a resolution asking her to fight elections from Phulpur seat in Uttar Pradesh.
The committee, in a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, has asked Priyanka Gandhi to fight the elections from Phulpur- from where India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru used to contest the elections.
Reacting to reports earlier on Monday that Congress has decided to make Priyanka campai and not confine her to Amethi and Raebareli, Congress general secretary Ajay Maken denied the reports saying disinformation was being spread on the issue as Priyanka will be campaigning only in Amethi and Raebareli.
"I deny those reports absolutely. It (news about Priyanka Gandhi) is an attempt by some people to divert attention from the issue and to hide MP Government's failure," Congress General Secretary Ajay Maken told reporters.
Now, even BJP's Kanpur committee wants Narendra Modi to contest from Kanpur seat. For the same reason, they have sought approval from BJP's Parliamentary unit, state BJP unit and BJP President Rajnath Singh.
