KOCHI: Gone are the days when children sat with their grandmothers and listened to traditional poems.    The breaking up of joint families into nuclear families have taken children away from traditional values. In a bid to bring back the forgotten days, Infobells Interactive Solutions, an e-learning firm, has come up with ‘Ammutty - Malayalam Nursery Pattugal’, an animated musical album for children.Launching the DVD, which caters to four to six-year-old children, writer and Kendra Sahitya Akademi award winner Sippy Pallipuram said, “Nuclear families keep children away from their roots. They rarely get to listen to traditional poems.”According to him, introducing nursery musical albums like ‘Ammutty’ will acquaint children with the Malayalam language. “The best nursery rhymes in the world are in Malayalam. The tunes and lyrics of Malayalam poems are engaging and appealing for children,” he said. For the album’s playback singer Gayatri Ashokan, it was her first attempt at singing for children. “Singing for an animated movie was challenging because I am known as a ghazal and movie singer,” she said.Praising the initiative to launch a nursery album,Malayalam music director Berny Ignatius said that the composition and orchestra were appropriate for children. The album’s protagonist Ammu, a little Malayali girl, and her pet Pappu lead the audience through different life situations with a fun-filled video depicting the rich culture of Kerala.
