BANGALORE: The High Court on Tuesday disposed of a petition seeking to prevent animal sacrifice at Durga temple of Kushtagi taluk in Koppal district after the state government filed an affidavit that appropriate action will be initiated against those indulging in animal sacrifice in the name of religious rituals.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice H G Ramesh heard the petition by the Akhila Karnataka Prani Daya Sangha of Bangalore. The government submitted that it will take all necessary action in accordance with the law to prevent animal sacrifice in the state.B K Sreenivasamurthy, Under Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry said that Shivaramu, Principal Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry on July 8, 2011 had issued a circular directing the DCs, SPs and incharge district officials to strictly enforce provisions of Karnataka Prevention of Animal Sacrifice Act 1959 and Karnataka Prevention of Animal Sacrifice rules 1963.
