CHITTOOR: Seven persons including two women were killed and 21 others were injured in a collision involving three vehicles at Pootalapattu in the small hours of Saturday, police said. The mishap occurred near Pootalapattu village at around 3.30 a.m. when a lorry collided head-on with a Tirumala-bound private bus, carrying devotees from Bangalore, while the bus also hit rear portion of the car which was trying to overtake.The car was going to Tirupati from Tirunalveli in Tamil Nadu. The lorry, with a load of plywood was on its way to Mayavaram in Tamil Nadu from Hyderabad, when the accident happened. Five persons died on the spot while two others succumbed to injuries in CMC Hospital in Vellore while undergoing treatment. Twenty one others were injured of which the condition of six was reported to be critical. According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Babu Arvind (50), who was travelling in the car, Lokesh (30) of Tumkur, SK Srilatha (32), her younger son SK Bhaktavatsalam (14), all the three were travelling in the bus, Ansar (22), cleaner of the lorry, who was reportedly driving the vehicle at the time of accident. All the five died on the spot, while Reetadevi (60) of Vijayawada and S Roshan (28), driver of Volvo bus, presumed to be from Bangalore, died at the hospital while undergoing treatment.SK Srinivas (43), husband of Srilatha and her elder son SK Govindaraju (16), Reetadevi's husband Panduraj (62) along with B Ranganath, Ajay Kumar, Mahesh are undergoing treatment at CMC Hospital in Vellore.Chittoor superintendent of police Kanthi Rana Tata, DSP Shilpavalli rushed to the accident spot. Pootalapattu police registered a case and are investigating.
