Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh's liquor scandal claimed more casualties on Sunday with the arrests of top police officers in Warrangal, Khammam, Adeelabad and Kurnool districts. Sources say that around two additional SPs, two deputy SPs, four inspectors from Warrangal, Khammam, Adilabad, Kurnool districts were arrested for their alleged role in the illegal liquor syndicate.
Earlier, some excise officials had come under scrutiny and had been arrested for their role in the scam.
Nearly 23 FIRs have been registered and 10 excise officials suspended till now in connection with the case.
CNN-IBN had accessed documents that exposed the full extent of the AP liquor scam and revealed the complicity of the political class.
Sources say the policemen and officials didn't just take bribes, they also lent money to the tune of Rs 2 crore to the mafia to carry on the trade.
The biggest embarrassment up till now has been the reported involvement of the state excise minister in the scam. At least 40 bootleggers were arrested last month and a total 1,600 litres of illicit liquor was seized.
