On its India debut the iTunes Store is offering a selected range of Indian music and movies for purchase with prices in Indian rupees.

New Delhi: Apple has finally opened the doors of its popular iTunes Store for users in India. On its India debut the iTunes Store is offering a selected range of Indian music and movies for purchase with prices in Indian rupees.

Individual songs are available for purchase for Rs 12 and albums are available at prices ranging from Rs 72 to Rs 150. Bollywood movies are also available for rent and purchase. Movies can be rented for Rs 80 to Rs 120 and purchased for Rs 190 to Rs 490. Some movies are available in standard as well as high definition.

In addition to local Indian content, Indian users can also buy international movies and music from the iTunes Store. The Indian movies and music collection on iTunes is currently limited and it is expected that Apple will widen its offering soon.

Prices on the iTunes Store is a little higher than what is being offered by Flyte, Flipkart's iTunes-like store for digital music and ebooks. For example the Dabangg 2 album is available for Rs 72 on Flyte, whereas on iTunes it is priced at Rs 96. On Flyte individual song downloads are available for Rs 6, but on iTunes the price is about Rs 12.
