Actress-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan had been disqualified as a Rajya Sabha member due to office of profit issue.

New Delhi: The process will be set in motion for re-entry of film star-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan into Rajya Sabha on Monday.

The notification for the June 15 polls to four seats including two from Uttar Pradesh and one from Maharashtra due to the death of senior BJP leader Pramod Mahajan will be issued by the Election Commission.

Bachchan's disqualification two months back in the wake of the office of profit controversy had stirred a major political row which had resulted in abrupt adjournment of the first phase of the Budget session of Parliament and resignation of Congress President Sonia Gandhi from the Lok Sabha.

Bachchan has since resigned as Chairperson of UP Film Development Corporation, a post which was seen as an office of profit and had led to her disqualification.

UP Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) President Mulayam Singh Yadav has already announced the candidature of Bachchan for the seat. But it is still unclear as to who will fill the slot vacated by noted industrialist Anil Ambani who won as an independent with support of the SP.

Ambani had also resigned in the wake of the office of profit issue amid reports that he used the opportunity to distance himself from the Yadav-led party.

In Maharashtra, the seat fallen vacant with the death of Mahajan is unlikely to go to BJP despite moves to make his wife Rekha or son Rahul as the nominee.

This was because Congress which has now emerged as the single largest party has rejected suggestions to leave the seat for the BJP and Sharad Pawar-led NCP had to follow suit.
