Senior IPS officer Pratap Reddy, who is serving as the Director General of Police (DGP), Internal Security Division of Karnataka, has sought a voluntary retirement from service (VRS) over alleged differences with his senior.
Reddy’s move raised eyebrows as he applied for the VRS months ahead of his natural retirement, which was due in May this year. Sources said he took the step due to his alleged differences with one of his seniors.
Responding to the development, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said it was a personal decision of the senior police official and he was aware of the reason behind his step.
A Btech, Pratap Reddy started his career as an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer posted in Karnataka cadre and solved many crucial cases as a Superintendent of Police (SP) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) official. The senior police official has also served in the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Bengaluru and Mumbai.
A recipient of President and Chief Minister’s awards, Pratap Reddy is known for solving many banking and cyber security frauds. Pratap Reddy has written to the state’s home ministry to relieve him from service on April 30, just a month ahead of his natural retirement.
