Bodies Of Two ICG Coast Guards Found After Fatal Helicopter Crash, One Still Missing
A massive search and rescue operation was deployed by the ICG, where four ships and two aircraft were sent to search the area for the missing crew members

The bodies of two members of the Indian Coast Guard were recovered from the Arabian Sea late on Tuesday evening.  Three crew members went missing after a ICG helicopter crashed off Porbandar coast in Gujarat during a rescue operation.

Among the three crew members, one continues to remain missing. The ICG, in a statement said that the incident occurred on Monday night.

The statement further read, “On 02 Sep 2024, India Coast Guard ALH helicopter was launched at 2300 hrs to evacuate an injured crew member from the Motor Tanker Hari Leela off Porbandar, Gujarat. The helicopter had to make an emergency hard landing and ditched into sea. One crew member recovered, search for the remaining three crew members is in progress. ICG has deployed 04 ships & 02 aircraft for rescue efforts.”

A massive search and rescue operation was soon deployed by the ICG, where four ships and two aircraft were sent to search the area for the missing crew members, Times of India reported. The wreckage of the aircraft has been located, but efforts to find the remaining missing crew member persists.

On August 26, the ICG had successfully rescued 11 crew members from the distressed MV ITT Puma during a night-time search and rescue operation. The Mumbai-registered general cargo vessel was traveling from Kolkata to Port Blair when it reportedly sank approximately 90 nautical miles south of Sagar Island in West Bengal.
