Delhi Fog Horrific Accident: Police are scanning CCTV cameras installed near Ghaziabad's Wave City area to ascertain the chain of events. Cops said the body was mutilated beyond recognition and parts were scattered across the carriageway.

In one of the most horrific accident cases, a hit-and-run victim was run over by several cars on NH9 amid dense fog in Delhi-NCR. Reportedly, the body was mangled beyond recognition, even the fingers were severed from the palm.

According to a report in Times of India, the incident took place on Monday night when the accident victim became invisible to motorists in the dense fog that had descended on national capital region.

The report stated that police officers are yet to identify the victim and are scanning over 16-hour footage from CCTV cameras installed near Ghaziabad’s Wave City area, to ascertain the chain of events.

A report in Hindustan Times quoted police as saying that the incident occurred Sadbhawna crossing near Dasna, and by the time the cops were alerted and reached the spot, the body was mutilated beyond recognition and parts were scattered across the carriageway.

TOI quoted ACP Wave City Saloni Agrawal as saying that the body was noticed by some some commuters who spotted blood on the road alerted the cops around 10 am on Monday.

“Police and NHAI quick response teams took an hour to find the severely mangled parts of the body. We found some tattered cloth pieces, blood and some bones along with a few fingers. It is still unclear if the deceased was a man or woman,” the ACP was further quoted.

Agrawal added that police teams are visiting nearby villages and colonies to identify the body. They are also checking the missing complaint reports to identify the person.

HT quoted sub-inspector Bhanu Pratap Singh, incharge of Dasna police post, as saying that they checked the CCTV footage of the highway cameras but hardly anything could be made out on the road in the dense fog and the suspect vehicle that hit the person could not be spotted.

Agarwal said that police suspects that the person was hit by a vehicle while trying to cross the stretch.

According to estimates of National Highways Authority of India, the NH-9 and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (which is also part of NH-9) stretches in Ghaziabad see about 200,000 daily passengers car units.

The NHAI has submitted a complaint in the hit-and-run incident and an FIR has been registered against unknown persons under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (death by negligence) of IPC, TOI stated.

NCR recorded the worst fog of the season on Monday leading to the cancellation of several flights at IGI airport. According to an India Meteorological Department (IMD) report, the visibility in Delhi-NCR was reduced to 50 metres at 2.30 am on Monday, dipping further to zero metres around 3 am.
