Chennai: A group of people on Thursday harassed three women from the North East in Chennai's Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium during a football match between Chennayin FC and NorthEast United FC.

The incident, caught on camera, showed a man making obscene gestures and dancing in front of three women even as a man tried to shoo them away. Soon, people gathered around women, but no one mustered the courage to confront the man.

While a man holding a flag can be seen dancing, another man on the other side was seen making offensive signs.

As the man continued making obnoxious gesticulation, crowd around the man and concerned women gawked in amusement. When the harasser turned his back to her, the woman pushed him aside, indicating he remain at a distance.

The man was unfazed and went on to further mock the woman. Her friends, though, tried their best to keep him away.

The video shared first on a Facebook page -- Indian Football Team - For World Cup -- has now become a point of discussion on fan pages associated with both Chennayin FC and NorthEast United FC.

Actor John Abraham, the owner of the NorthEast United team, termed the incident deeply disturbing and wrote on his team's official page: "To the girl who was victimized by these insensitive and thoughtless people, we stand with you and you'll never feel alone as you must've felt in that moment. I will personally meet you and make sure you are ok."

John further added that the fan who troubled women was fake, and Abhishek and he would never condone such a behaviour. "I will find you and make sure you are punished," he said, adding that the person will have to apologise for his objectionable conduct.
