BERHAMPUR: The ruling BJD is all set to form the Ganjam Zilla Parishad (ZP). Of the 69 seats, the party won 60, Congress four, BJP and CPI two each and CPM one. When the ZP was formed, the then chief minister Biju Patnaik had nominated Renubala Pradhan - at present a Rajya Sabha member - as the chairman of the ZP. Subsequently, Rebati Mohan Nayak held the seat and she was followed by Dharanidhar Behera. Dharanidhar, however, was thrown out due to anti-party activities by party supremo Naveen Patnaik. In his place, Kamraju Sethi was elected ZP president. The party was successful in retaining the seat this time too. Meanwhile, the leaders are busy selecting right candidate for the post. As there are more contenders for the post, the matter has been left to Naveen.ROURKELA: BJD emerged winner in the 35-member Sundargarh ZP election as it cornered 10 of the 19 seats, the results of which were officially declared on Wednesday evening. Results for the remaining 16 ZP seats in eight blocks were not declared till last reports came in. Sundargarh ADM B B Behera said BJD emerged victorious from Tangarpali, Subdega and Lahunipara blocks to pocket as many as six ZP seats. Moreover, the party won Sundargarh Sadar (B), Hemgir (B), Lefripara (A) and Gurundia (B) ZP constituencies. He said the Congress emerged winners from Sundargarh Sadar (A), Hemgir (A), Bargaon (A) and (B), Lefripara (B) and Bisra (A) ZP seats, while two Independents (BJD rebels) won the Kutra (A) and (B) and the JMM emerged victorious from the Gurundia (A).
