CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Saturday appealed to the voters of the State to vote for the AIADMK to ensure overall development of Tamil Nadu as well as the reach of welfare schemes to all sections of the society.Jayalalithaa said going by the overwhelming response of the people to her campaign, it was very clear that the AIADMK would get a stronger mandate than the Assembly elections. She also appealed to all sections of the society to exercise their franchise without fail.In an open letter to the voters, the AIADMK chief said the grass-root level local bodies have the responsibility of taking the benefits of the welfare schemes to the people. Only because of this, it is said that stronger local bodies are a must for a healthy democracy.In this connection, Jayalalithaa said during the past five years, due to irregularities, violent incidents and bogus voting, corrupt persons became functionaries of the local bodies and basic amenities could not be fulfilled because of this. On the other hand, DMK men amassed wealth, Jayalalithaa alleged.
