HYDERABAD: The heat from the Telangana Sakala Janula Samme are set to reach Hyderabadis’ doorsteps -- and their nostrils -- in the days to come with sanitation workers of the city joining the strike and pulling out of garbage clearance work this afternoon.Stung by the arrest of their leaders Tuesday afternoon, the Bhagyanagar Municipal Employees Union said it would brave any ESMA action that might be taken by the government and leave the city’s where it is deposited.In the next 24 hours, city streets are likely to stink to the skies as 4,500 metric tonnes of wet and dry garbage is generated daily in Greater Hyderabad. Nearly 16,000 workers lift this garbage from about 5,000 bins. About 900 vehicles transport it to landfills. All that has stopped.Speaking to Express, GHMC commissioner M T Krishna Babu spoke conciliatory words. He said the civic authority is making efforts to see that the workers get back to their barrows. ‘’We have asked the police to release the arrested persons,’’ he said.
