HYDERABAD: Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s auditor Vijay Sai Reddy filed a petition in the Special CBI Court on Friday alleging that the investigating agency was crossing its limits during the investigation into Jaganmohan Reddy’s illegal assets case while threatening the witnesses and recording their statements. The magistrate, B Naga Maruthi Sharma ordered issuance of notices to CBI officials and posted the hearing to December 7.Around 11.30 am, Vijay Sai Reddy went to the court and had a lengthy conversation with his counsel Uma Maheswara Rao, after which the latter filed a petition. Soon after hearing began, Sai Reddy’s counsel argued that the High Court had directed the CBI to investigate into Jaganmohan Reddy’s alleged illegal assets acquired between May 2004 and September 9, 2009.“The investigating agency has to follow the High Court directions while investigating the case. Why are they threatening the witnesses while recoding their statements? Why are they crossing their limits during the investigation in violation of the High Court directions?’’ The counsel asked and said the CBI was also examining things that took place in 1999, 2000 and 2001.He further alleged that the CBI was not following prima facie norms as per the direction of the High Court and were probing past business matters while threatening the investors who invested in Jaganmohan Reddy’s ventures. "We do not object to their investigation and we are ready to cooperate with the CBI. But, the CBI should not violate the law during the investigation,’’ he argued. The CBI has the right to interrogate and examine various persons during the investigation of any case. But, it does not have any right to threaten the witnesses or force them to issue statements. It comes under violation of law,’’ the counsel said.
