NEW DELHI: The Centre on Thursday approved the investment proposal for the implementation of the four laning of Madurai -Ramanathapuram section on NH 49 in Tamil Nadu under the NHDP Phase II on DBFOT basis in BOT (Toll) mode of delivery. The meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure (CCI) chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also approved the investment proposal for the implementation of the four laning with paved shoulder of Vikravandi-Meensuruti-Thanjavur section of NH 45 in Tamil Nadu. The total project cost estimated for implementing under DBFOT pattern is Rs 1402.50 crore out of which Rs 312.50 crore will be towards land acquisition, rehabilitation, resettlement and pre-construction. The total length of the project is 164.22 km and the concession period will be 27 years, including the construction time of 30 months. The main objective of the project is to expedite the improvement of infrastructure in Tamil Nadu and also reducing the time and cost of travel between Vikkravandi, Meensuruti and Thanjavur. It will also boost employment prospects for local labourers in the project activities. The total four laning of Madurai -Ramanathapuram section project cost estimated is Rs 828.07 crore out of which Rs 145.07 crore will be towards land acquisition, rehabilitation, resettlement and preconstruction. The completion of the project would reduce the time and cost of travel for traffic plying between Madurai-Ramanathapuram and the project will cover parts of Madurai, Silaiman, Thirupuvanam, Manumadurai Sivanganga, Paramakudi and Ramanathapuram.
