New Delhi: Kingfisher Airlines Chairman Vijay Mallya has reportedly violated security rules at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday.
Mallya landed at the IGI Airport runway in his helicopter and then boarded a Kingfisher private jet without getting himself checked by the security.
The Bureau Of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) guidelines states that even VIPs must get themselves security checked.
According to security officials Mallya should have got off his helicopter, then gone to the arrival terminal and before boarding his jet, get a proper security check done.
Sources at Kingfisher Airlines say that the security agency knew very well about Mallya's bay to bay transfer and had allowed it as Mallya had requested so.
He apparently did not go for security check as he was getting late to watch the Bangalore Royal Challenger's IPL match in Mumbai.
Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is responsible for the security at the airport. has reported the matter to BCAS and an inquiry is on.
"It is the responsibility of the captain of the Aircraft to ensure that the passenger boarding his aircraft has the mandatory pre–embarkation checks. We have reported the matter to BCAS for investigation and further necessary action," a statement released by the CISF said.
"CISF was requested to facilitate Mallya's ramp to ramp transfer but it refused for the departure from the established security procedures and intimated them that the security procedures have to be followed," the statement further said.
However, Mallya denied any breach of rules by him.
We would like to clarify that there has been absolutely no violation of any security guidelines/ norms by Dr Vijay Mallya during his visit to Delhi as wrongly reported in a section of the press. Ramp transfer, i.e transfer of a passenger who has arrived in a civilian airfield (after having undergone prescribed under checks before boarding at the point of origin) and transfers to another aircraft in that civilian airfield is fully permitted under the current guidelines. This is a norm and a regular practice followed by airlines in India. Dr Mallya boarded the helicopter from the Hindon Air Force base which is a secure and sterile area and he underwent the prescribed security screening procedures at the Hindon Air Force base. Because he did not leave the sterile portion of the New Delhi airport at any point after his arrival and during his transfer from one aircraft to another, there is no question of any violation of security norms," Mallya spokesperson said in a statement on Friday evening.
