KOCHI: The health wing of the Kochi Corporation is planning to conduct more inspections at the hotels and restaurants in the city. The decision was taken after a special squad seized large quantities of stale food, including meat, fish and pudding, from a few hotels in Mattanchery and Fort Kochi areas the other day. T K Ashraf, chairman of the Kochi Corporation Health Standing Committee, said, "The committee has instructed the officials to conduct more raids next week. Two special eight-member squads for East and West zones have been formed for the purpose. The squads will conduct separate inspections on a zonal basis." Ashraf said that the condition in some of the hotels, from where decayed food was seized, was found to be very unhygienic and the day sold food was unfit for human consumption. He said the Corporation will take strong steps against such restaurants, including the cancellation of the licences.
