CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) will file a report to the State government on the ways and means to handle the power shortage, on Saturday.Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa met top electricity board officials on Friday to review the power situation.Currently, the State is facing a shortage of 3,500 MW and Jayalalithaa has promised to bridge the shortage by 2013 by speeding up ongoing projects besides going in for new power projects.Electricity Minister Natham R Viswanathan, Revenue Minister KA Sengottaiyan, Chief Secretary Debendranath Sarangi, TANGEDCO Chairman Rajeev Ranjan and several other senior officials participated. Ranjan briefed the CM on the present power situation in the State and he was asked to file a status report suggesting ways to tackle the shortage issue.Sources said, top EB officials are preparing a comprehensive report suggesting means to handle the bleak power situation.Presently, the rural regions of the State face a cut ranging from 8-10 hours. Barring Chennai, other urban centres, like Coimbatore and Madurai, face a cut of 4-6 hours a day.
