London: Men should keep away from coffee, booze and nuts if they want to avoid sprouting ‘manboobs’, experts at Cambridge University suggest.
According to experts, all these items contain gender-bending chemicals.
Excess of them can give fellas “moobs”, as sported by the likes of Johnny Vegas, 38, Simon Cowell, 48, and Jeremy Clarkson, 48.
Scientists in Cambridge, who have drawn up a list of the food and drinks that contain the most “moob growers”, made the discovery.
Top of the table is instant coffee, followed by Brazil nuts and roast peanuts. Tea, red wine and brown ale are also high on the list.
Food expert Dr Gunter Kuhnle, of the MRC Dunn Human Nutrition Unit, led the research.
He had already looked into the effects such chemicals in feed had on the fertility of cattle.
He admitted he was shocked to find high levels of the chemicals, known as phytoestrogens, in human food and drink.
“The levels we’ve found are far higher than expected,” the Daily Star quoted Dr Kuhnle, as saying.
The chemicals can lead to breast cancer and cause problems for people with a low thyroid function.
