Kolkata: Colas would not be banned in West Bengal till the state government received a report on samples sent to the Centre for testing, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said today.

"A decision will be taken only after we receive the report," he told reporters.

Till a decision was taken by the state government, there would not be any ban on sale of Coke and Pepsi, he said.

"Ofcourse. They can sell until a decision is taken by the state government," Bhattacharjee said.

Meanwhile, Left Front Chairman Biman Bose said primary reports of laboratory tests of soft drinks in in the state had failed to identify any ingredient that could cause harm.

"Preliminary reports from different laboratories on tests on the contents in Coke and Pepsi have not identified any hazardous ingredient, intake of which can cause death," Bose said.

The state government had sent samples of the soft drinks for laboratory tests recently.

The NGO, Centre for Science and Environment, had alleged that colas contained a high level of pesticide.
