HYDERABAD: The Congress leadership is once again trying to corner TDP and its chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Telangana. Congress leaders were of the view that the discussions initiated by the Congress high command would give the desired results and the Congress would take a clear stand on the issue. In such a scenario, the TDP will have to shed its ambiguous stand on T, they felt.Other parties like the BJP, CPI, TRS and CPI(ML) New Democracy have already made their stand clear favouring separate state whereas the CPM opposed the bifurcation of the state.Congress,TDP and the YSR Congress party, however, did not disclose their opinion on the issue. The Congress leadership has invited party leaders from Telangana as well as Seemandhra for discussions. After completing the exercise, Congress party may be able to come out with a clear stand on T. AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that they would complete the exercise in the next 100 days.At least till now, the Congress game appears to be working. Chandrababu Naidu continues to face serious problems in checking the party’s eroding credibility in Telangana. The game plan, apparently being played in perfect coordination by the Congress and the TRS, is to corner the Telugu Desam. The byelection to Banswada Assembly constituency in Nizamabad district, which was vacated by TDP MLA Pocharam Srinivasa Reddy, is likely to be held in September. It may be recalled that Srinivas Reddy has joined the TRS after quitting the TDP.In the light of the byelection, all pro-T organisations are likely to put pressure on the TDP to take a decision soon on the issue.Congress MP Madhu Yashki Goud said the T state process is being delayed because of Congress and TDP not taking clear decision on T. He said since the Congress Central leadership has started the dialogue process, the TDP should also do the same.He wanted senior TDP leaders like T Devendar Goud to take the initiative in this regard.
