Consumer protection is mandatory at all levels, said R Kamaraj, State Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, Consumer Protection and Price Control.
He said this while presiding over the investiture of the students council at the Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College on Tuesday. The Minister reiterated that consumer protection was a necessity and that his Ministry was taking all steps to ensure the same.
“Consumer protection is necessary for all people in the city. We are happy that educational institutions like DG Vaishnav are enabling people to be aware of this important phenomenon,” he said. The Citizen Consumer Club (CCC), which was started in 2008, has been involved in several social initiatives as well as consumer rights awareness programmes across Tamil Nadu. The Minister lauded the achievements of the college and called upon students to maintain the right balance between education and service. “Students of DG Vaishnav College have balanced academics and service well. This will enable them to become responsible in society. This has contributed to their stupendous achievements over the years.” he added.
In his annual report, CCC president Rahul said that they were planning to visit 50 government schools and educate the students on basic consumer rights. He added that in connection with the National Youth Day celebrations, a World Interfaith Conference would be organised on the theme ‘Universal oneness’. The student’s council for the year 2012-13 was installed and all office-bearers were formally recognised by the Minister.
