Contractual workers seek better deal

ANGUL: Following a steep hike in the salaries of Nalco employees, hundreds of contractual workers led by their coordinator Rajib Jena laid siege to the office at the main administrative building here seeking fulfilment of their 35 demands.The workers stalled work which reportedly affected production in the smelter plant.They are demanding a hike in daily wages, bonus, medical allowances and provision for civic amenities at their residential colonies.The strike was called off after the management assured the agitators to look into their demands. General Manager Asoke Sahu said Nalco pays more than the Central Government minimum daily wage. However, we are open to talks with the workers, he added.
