Jaipur: Rajasthan Police have broken up a protest demanding the arrest of former DIG Madhukar Tandon accused of raping a woman.
The rape victim, who was part of the protest, has also gone missing after police removed them from the protest site near Chief Minister Ashok Ghelot's official residence late on Tuesday night.
Police also arrested 25 people staging demonstration demanding the arrest of the absconding former DIG.
Those arrested include the MP from Dausa Kirorilal Meena, who was leading the protest. All the arrested persons have been taken to Ajmer jail.
Police say the rape victim and her husband have been let off. The incident happened after police said on Tuesday that they are reviving the hunt for the absconding DIG who raped an orderly's wife 12 years ago.
Rajasthan Police Additional Director General Kanhaiya Lal has told CNN-IBN that the police have now started the process of investigations.
"I consider it a very serious issue. He was a police officer. The case was filed and a trial was going on but the accused was absconding. The government will try its level best to nab the culprit," Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot told CNN-IBN.
He said more teams will formed to trace the senior IPS officer has been absconding and evading arrest for the past 12 years.
Moreover, in 2001, the victim's husband - an orderly who worked for the DIG - was allegedly forced to quit.
