BHUBANESWAR: With reports of snatching cases pouring in from across the City, the Commissionerate Police are out keeping a watch on the movements of the offenders. The police stations have been given a clear instruction to verify with the jewellers about the "who's who" in the business. Since most robberies, specifically of gold jewellery, end at the jewellery stores where the yellow metal is received, police are keeping a watch on the new arrivals, sources said.
Last week only, a group of women had met Police Commissioner BK Sharma complaining of rising of snatching cases in the City. The rising concern levels have prompted the police to make an extra effort to keep the snatchers at bay. "While we know the old hands in the business, information about the new entrants is key," said an officer. Lately, youngsters, students of technical colleges, have been held for snatching of gold items and valuables from the people.The police stations have started keeping a close watch on the retail outlets, which are on the suspect list, seeking necessary information.
