KOCHI: The Kochi Corporation Council on Saturday urged the State Government to take steps to make sure that the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) conduct night services in the City. While passing a resolution in this regard, the Council observed that the desired result of the Vyttila Mobilty Hub could not be attained without the introduction of night services. “At present, KSRTC buses are entering the Hub only during the daytime. From 8 pm to 8 am, the long-distance KSRTC buses are operating from the KSRTC bus station. But the entire operations can be shifted to the Hub if the KSRTC press into operation night services,” Mayor Tony Chammany said.He said a list would be prepared detailing the route through which  night services were required. “The list will be prepared after consulting the councillors,” the Mayor added.Regarding the rehabilitation of the vendors at the Corporation land on Paramara Road, Chammany said it was only a temporary arrangement. “Permanent shelters will be provided to them under the Pulleppady Rail Overbridge later,” he added. The mayor said a meeting would be convened on November 5 to speed up the land acquisition procedures for the widening the Thammanam-Pulleppady road and Atlantis RoB construction. “The District Collector is expected to attend the meeting. The State Government has already allotted `48 crore for acquiring land for both projects. The meeting is likely to discuss the construction of RoB at Pachalam also,” he added. With several councillors raising complaint about the lethargic attitude of the employees under the civic  body, Chammany instructed the Corporation Secretary to conduct regular inspections at all the five zonal offices of the Corporation to make sure that the staff remain on their toes.Opposition leader K J Jacob, councillors M Anilkumar, N Venugopal, N A Shafeek, Syamala S Prabhu and Mumthaz Teacher also took part in the discussion.
