New Delhi: Stressing on accountability in works related to the Commonwealth Games, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday said the government will look into the allegations of malpractices and spare no one found to be involved in them after the event.
At the same time, she emphasised on the need for everyone to come together and ensure the success of the Games at this juncture.
"This is the time for all of us to come together and ensure their (Games) success. The success of the Games is that of our country - not of any party or of an individual. The Prime Minister has himself intervened decisively. The prestige of the nation is involved," she said at the meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party here.
"Let us not forget this even as we take steps to ensure accountability. I trust that as soon as the Games are over, the government will look into the allegations of malpractice and spare no one found to be involved in them," she said.
Sonia also expressed concern over the situation in the Kashmir Valley and said efforts should be made to reach out to the people of the region.
She backed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's initiative in this regard. On the issue of Naxalism, Gandhi underscored the need for taking tribal development seriously. She also said that there was a need to check illegal mining.
Sonia condoled the loss of lives and devastation caused by the flash floods in Leh region of Jammu and Kashmir.
On the upcoming elections in Bihar, Gandhi asked party men to work towards strengthening the organisation in the state.
