BANGALORE: It is definitely a matter of pride to have creative children in namma Bengaluru.Rashmi Ravishankar a 11th standard student of Amrith Education and Cultural Society was awarded the National Bal Shree Honour recently. It is the highest honour given to the Most Creative Children in India.After watching a Bharatanatyam performance she fell in love with the dance and the rhythm.That day she told her mother that she would like to learn this form of dance.Soon she began learning Bharatanatyam under the guidance of her first Guru Anitha Rao. As time passed by she became a pupil of Guru Sheela Chandrasekhar & Guru B Bhanumati, two most renowned teachers in Karnataka.Dancing for more than ten years now Rashmi has over 60 performances under her name and five awards at the national and state level with her most remarkable award being ‘The National Child Award’, for exceptional achievement from the President of India in the year 2010 and The National Bal Shree Honour 2010 by the Union Minster of State for Human Resource Development Dr D Purandeshwari for Creative Performance at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.She shares her experience by saying, “It was so amazing to be there. I felt really lucky to perform with few of India’s most creative children, as much as I loved performing I also loved watching others perform. This event was truly one of the biggest events I have ever attended and it feels really good to attend an event as big as this.” She also adds, “My main support was from my family.They were always there with me for all my performances and I can’t do anything without them.” This schoolgirl also manages her school work with her passion for dance. “Always love what you do. In case you don’t, then don’t do it,” she says.To prove this right she is preparing for her IIT while she is dancing, sketching, painting and immersing herself in Carnatic music.According to her, Bharatanatyam is everything to her. She says, “Few believe it’s worship, few believe it’s meditation, but for me it’s everything!”
