Defence Forces, PM, RBI, SC & Election Commission Most Trusted Institutions Of 2024: Ipsos IndiaBus Survey
Political parties and politicians despite turning more accountable and serving the people, continue to be viewed with scepticism and adjudged least trustworthy, according to the survey

The Defence Forces (Army, Navy and Air Force), the Prime Minister (PM) of the country, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Supreme Court of India and the Election Commission of India (ECI) have emerged the most trusted institutions of 2024, according to the Ipsos IndiaBus Most Trusted Institutions annual survey.

The survey was conducted pan-India, across SECs, age groups, cities with representation across metros, tier-1, tier-2 and tier-3 cities and across different cohorts and regions using the Ipsos IndiaBus platform. The respondents were exposed to a list of institutions and asked to rank them on trustworthiness.

The survey covered a long list of institutions that were randomised and ranked by citizens.

HOW DID THE INSTITUTIONS STACK UP?

Elucidating on the findings of the survey, Parijat Chakraborty, Group Service Line Leader, Public Affairs, Corporate Reputation, CSR and Sustainability, Ipsos India, said, “The top rankers on trust in our annual survey of the Ipsos IndiaBus Most Trusted Institutions mapped on the perception of citizens are the defence forces, the PM of country, the RBI, the Supreme Court of India and the Election Commission of India (ECI); emerging most trusted. All these institutions uphold the highest form of integrity, values and trustworthiness.”

“Political parties and politicians despite turning more accountable and serving the people, continue to be viewed with scepticism and adjudged least trustworthy. The survey shows that for the perception to be shifted or to be clearly understood, awareness around institutions is not only built overtime, but sustained with exemplary work and values,” Chakraborty said.

Interestingly, trust for defence forces was high among certain demographics and cities: in tier-1 cities (76%), north zone (72%), west zone (64%), 45+ age group (63%), part-time and full-time employed (62%) and SEC A (60%).

Trust for the PM of the country was high among tier-1 citizens (70%), north zone (67%), west zone (62%), 45+ age group (56%), employed – part time and full time (54%) and low education (54%).

METHODOLOGY

Ipsos IndiaBus is a monthly pan-India omnibus (which also runs multiple client surveys) that uses a structured questionnaire and is conducted by Ipsos India on diverse topics among 2,200+ respondents from SEC A, B and C households, covering adults of both genders from all four zones in the country.

The survey was conducted in metros, tier-1, tier-2 and tier-3 towns, providing a more robust and representative view of urban Indians.

The respondents were polled face-to-face and online. The city-level quota for each demographic segments ensured the waves were identical and there was no additional sampling error. The data was weighed by demographics and city-class population to arrive at national average.
