Delhi HC upholds life term for one in MAMC rape case
A fourth year medical student was raped on November 15, 2002.

New Delhi: Stating that he acted "not only as a beast but also as a savage", the Delhi High Court on Monday upheld life imprisonment for one in the 2002 gang rape of a Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) student. The other person held guilty by a lower court was set free.

Upholding life imprisonment for Rahul, a division bench of Justices Pradeep Nandrajog and Suresh Kait said: "He (Rahul) acted not only as a beast but also as a savage."

The court, however, set the other person, Amit, free and said he had already served his punishment.

Monday's verdict came five years after a lower court ruled that both Rahul and Amit were guilty of raping a medical student.

The victim, a fourth year student at MAMC, was raped by the duo at knife point on the terrace of the Mughal monument Khooni Darwaza in central Delhi on November 15, 2002.

The trial court in 2005, had acquitted the other two people involved in the case
