In major embarrassment for Delhi, the national capital has been officially named the rape capital of India. A latest study by National Crime Record Bureau shows that Delhi has the highest number of rape cases in proportion to women population.
The report says that over 1800 rape cases were reported in Delhi in 2014 which is more than 1440 cases that were recorded in 2013.
As per the National Crime Record Bureau data, there were 15265 incidents of crime committed against women during 2014 in Delhi alone which is 4.5 per cent of crimes against women across the country.
In the data, crime against women includes rape, attempt to commit rape, kidnapping and abduction of women, dowry deaths, assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty, insult to modesty of women, cruelty by husband or his relatives, importation of girls from foreign country, abetment of suicides of women(Sec 306 IPC), Dowry Prohibition Act, Indecent Representation of Women (P) Act, Commission of Sati (P) Act, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act and Immoral Traffic (P) Act.
