New Delhi: The Delhi Metro's 14.47-km Qutub Minar-Gurgaon corridor will become operational by early June, an official said on Thursday.

The Metro line from Huda City centre in Gurgaon to Qutub Minar will later be connected with the Central Secretariat corridor, a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson said.

Once the plan is put into place, Gurgaon-Central Secretariat line will be connected with the corridor till Jahangirpuri in north Delhi, covering a distance of 45 km in 90 minutes, the official said.

"The line to Gurgaon from Qutub Minar has 10 stations, including five in Delhi. We expect a large inflow of domestic and foreign tourists with Qutub Minar station in between," the official said.

The DMRC said the Qutub Minar station's exterior is decorated with Dholpur stone-cladding to give it an ancient era touch.

"Hand-made tiles, clay and earthy colours have been given to the building to match it up with the local landscaping of the area," the spokesperson said.

He said the Metro station near Qutub Minar covers an area of 11,000 sq metres and has a parking space of 2,200 sq metres.

Before the Commonwealth Games in October, the Metro will run about 60 trains on the Central Secretariat-Gurgaon line with frequency as high as three minutes.
