TUMKUR: The police massacre in Venkatammanahalli village in Pavagada taluk on Feb 10, 2005, was done to avenge the death of self-proclaimed naxal leader Saketh Rajan alias Prem who was shot dead by the Karnataka Anti Naxal Squad police in Menasinhadya in Chickmagalur district on February 6, 2005.Then chief minister N Dharam Singh who was scheduled to visit the spot of the massacre gave it a miss on security grounds; police claimed that they unearthed landmines fixed under a small bridge on a road nearby. This came as a blessing in disguise as it is held every CM visiting ‘jinxed’ Pavagada would lose their seat.
