KOCHI: Sunday morning was different for 1,320 physically-handicapped students. They got an opportunity to showcase their skills and have fun, at the Sports Day organised under the aegis of Lions District 324 E  held at Government High School, Panampilly Nagar, on Sunday.Justice Surendra Mohan inaugurated the Meet and Lions district governor T A Varkey presided over the function. The events concluded in the evening. Home of Faith, Kakkanad, won the overall trophy with 209 points and Adarsh Charitable Trust, Kureekkad, was the runners-up with 156 points. District Collector Sheik Pareeth distributed the prizes. Students from several special schools in Alappuzha, Idukki and Ernakulam took part. About 500 teachers accompanied them. The programme began with a march-past in which the members of the Lions Clubs also participated.   Contests were held for the mentally challenged, visually challenged, hearing and speech impaired. Passing the ball, shot put, ball throw, long jump etc were held. Teachers assisted each participant in the task. Contests were also held for teachers.Actor Jayasurya and film director Sibi Malayil encouraged the participants. Members from 102 Lions Clubs from the three districts were also present.
